Nidec ASI closes contract with EDF Energy Renewables for UK’s National grid

news

With this new contract company grows UK energy storage market share to 33%

Nidec ASI announced another important deal with EDF Energy Renewables Limited UK, a 50-50 Joint Venture between EDF Energy (UK) and EDF Energies Nouvelles (France).

Nidec ASI will provide an energy storage system for a total capacity of 49MW and 34 MWh for the EFR ( Enhanced Frequency Response) to support UK’s National Grid.

This new contract follows closely an earlier deal for a 10-MW battery energy storage system, which was also for National Grid UK.

This project confirms Nidec ASI’s leadership in the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) market. In November, the industrial solutions leader switched on one of the world’s largest BESS projects with a total capacity of 90MW, for the stabilization of Germany’s power grid assigned to STEAG. Nidec ASI has also been successful outside of Europe and is currently completing its first project in Japan, supporting Advantec in the supply and installment of a BESS and solar power plant of 6MWc, providing four power conversion systems and energy storage system containers for a total capacity of 6 MW and 6 MWh.

Nidec ASI’s success is the result of extensive expertise in automation and power quality along with strong capabilities in R&D. At the end of last year the company launched 2 new Power Conversion Systems (PCS): the ES1000 inverter, specifically designed for BESS applications to maximize grid performance and offers primary, secondary and tertiary frequency regulation, and the GS1500, a 1500V Power Conversion System for PV plants. The new GS1500 has already been rewarded with more than 200 MW on order, repositioning the company in PV to match its success in energy storage.
